Poor Jack, though; hope he doesn't die-- he's a Good Dog. Seeing Seishirou talking to him like he was Lassie was rather amusing in retrospect ("What's that you say, Jack? Seimei's fallen down a well, broken his leg, is about to drown, is having a crisis of conscience and needs insulin?" "Bark!"), although I keep wondering if he's leery of the usual doggish habit of peeing on trees, what with his owner having a close friendship with one. I don't *even* want to consider what Tree-san would do to a dog who decided to use him as a toilet.....
That little interplay between Tree-san, Muraki and Seimei with the knife-- brrrr. Is it just me, or does Muraki seem ever-so-slightly to be treading water here? Other than shinigami, he usually seems to deal mostly with nonmagical or lower-level types-- NOT this time, though. And I think Tree-san unnerved him just a bit; nonhumans simply don't have the same motivations or concerns as humans, and it makes them that much more difficult for a human to read, doesn't it? Most of Muraki's foes to date haven't held off from killing him so that they could be fed his ethos in tasty bite-sized chunks, after all; eeeeeew. Now, if *I* were Muraki, I'd be looking into how to hurt the Tree-- he's the 'guard dog' and also supplies power to his enemies; hurting Tree-san would give our favorite Psycho ALL sorts of benefits, and I wouldn't be surprised if he might not try to absorb its power in some fashion or other. Or am I just being paranoid? No, of course not-- this *IS* Muraki we're talking about.
Family backup! Yaaaaaaay! Thought Meiri was going to pop a vein there for a moment. Time to play Kick-The-King, I think... Looks like Seishirou's gonna end up as Clan Head whether or not he likes it; but as an alternative, it strikes me that Senichi would make a good one too.
Ow.... Meiri isn't bonkers enough to contract with Muraki, is she? Is she? Aaaack.
It occurs to me to wonder how Muraki would react to an understanding of the whole End-Of-Humanity bit-- did he know what was going on? I mean, ending humanity would end HIM as well, which wouldn't be to his benefit, but I can't quite see him actively on Kamui's side. Uh-uh, nope nope nope. Sooooo... what WOULD he do? Try to off Fuuma? Try some way to strip him of his powers and absorb them himself? Hmmmmm.
Sigh. Lots of questions, and I'm wondering what Hinoto is doing while all this is happening. Scary. Mucho thankees for the feathers (Ysabet tucks one in her hair); if I don't get to see what happens soon, I will surely spontaneously combust.
